Oh, the HUMANITY

Hello Folks, So, I've been debating whether or not to write a blog entry on pregnancy.  I have so many conflicting emotions about sharing my thoughts on this matter.  I worry that I will be judged - because I am learning that pregnant women and parents in general are judged harshly...by everyone it seems.  Everyone, regardless of whether they have gone through it or not, seems to have opinions on the right and wrong way to be pregnant and raise a child.  I worry about sharing Too Much Information.  I worry that this has all been discussed, ad nauseam and no one really cares what I might have to say on the topic.  Nonetheless, I have so many thoughts, and it feels good to share them with ya'll.  So I'm going to jump on in and do it, judgement be damned! The Obvious This may be an obvious point, but I will say, for the record, that this is basically the most important, biggest life changing event that has ever happened to me.  It feels like my w...

Cats vs. Dogs

I don't know.  I've been thinking about this recently and decided to put my thoughts down on paper. A million people are excited to talk to you about how dogs are better than cats or cats are better than dogs or they are equal or they hate all animals or whatever.  Although...what kind of person hates animals?  I don't know. The point is, I don't believe that one is better than the other.  But, I do firmly believe that there are cat-people and dog-people and that I am a cat-person.  I'd like to discuss this. But first, I did actually read an article on this subject a while ago which made some interesting points on why some people are cat-people and some people are dog-people and I think it made a hell of a lot of sense.  Do I remember what this article said?  Not really.  But it made a lot of sense at the time. Let's get into it. I am a cat person.  I think it may be genetic.  I can remember loving cats since before Andy Sydney...

Ski House

You know how there are times or experiences in life that you look back on and think to yourself that you felt literally the happiest that you've ever felt?  I feel like we all have these. Summer Camp was one of those for me.  Another one was Ski House. When I think about Ski House now, it is with a deep sense of nostalgia, even though these experiences only happened a few years ago.  Yet, there was something about this period of about 5 years, each winter, that fulfilled every concept that I understand as true happiness.  Reminiscing about Ski House now makes me feel quite sad, because it's one of those situations that simply cannot be repeated - like anything great and worth remembering. I would like to share it with you. Let's talk about the 3 hour ride up to ski house with Greg and Danielle Stamm in the XTerra. The ride would always begin with a text message indicating at what hour I could expect the Stamms to show up outside my door in Brighton.  I'...

Men Just Don't Understand

I have a theory. And this theory is that Men just don't understand. Let me tell you a story. Yesterday at work, I was talking to my friend Yvonne about how my good friend and her family are probably going to move abroad and I suddenly was completely overwhelmed by emotion.  If you're a woman, you know the feeling.  I knew the next words coming out of my mouth would be wavering.  My eyes started to well up.  I couldn't even exactly express why I felt so MUCH at that moment, but it was a lot.  It was everything...my friend moving away, my friends and I not seeing each other as much, our lives moving onward and apart.  But mostly, it was hormones. On my way home a little later, my parents called to say hi.  "How was your day?"  My mom asked.  "Well...I don't know.  I felt down today."  I told her.  "I found out that my friend is probably moving abroad and, I don't know...I just suddenly got really sad about it." My dad join...

Reflections on the past 6 months, by Kate

Well, it’s been quite a while since I’ve written.  Now that I’ve been on vacation for one full week, I feel like my brain has calmed down enough to allow me the time and space to actually reflect.  Reflections on Weddings: Here is what I think.  I had every intention of being the best wedding planner of all time.  I mean, all I do at work is plan out projects and execute them, so how hard could it be?  The problem is that there is no practice for wedding planning.  Hopefully, you only ever plan for one wedding, so when you do it, it’s your first and last time.  I feel like my wedding was just about as perfect as it could have been.  I have no complaints.  However, in retrospect, there are many things I would change about the planning process itself.  Anyway, I don’t feel like doling out advice.  There are too many websites for that.  I will simply say the following things: 1) The Knot website is poorly designed and d...

Tonya Harding and Me

I watched the Nancy and Tonya documentary last night and was completely sucked in.  I even followed it up by watching some other documentary called 30 for 30 or something like that on Netflix about the same situation only completely from Tonya's point of view. There was a point during the documentary where I was watching Tonya perform her gold medal performance at worlds; the one where she landed the first women's triple axel in competition, and I thought suddenly, "Tonya Harding couldn't do that now."  Now, Tonya Harding lives in some town somewhere and is a landscape architect.  They had a whole segment where they showed her chainsawing down trees and she was like, "I'm completely happy with my life.  I like working with my hands!"  She was overweight and pasty and had just awful clothes.  They showed her singing karaoke at a bar and she sounded absolutely horrible, which also made me seriously question Tonya Harding's personal judgement in th...

Merry Christmas Ho Ho HO! And thanks to the united postal service for not coming through.

I know I'm not supposed to complain about the USPS, because they are having a hard time and they are attempting to better themselves.  Also, my beloved step-father-in-law was a postmaster.  But, seriously...USPS, get it together.  I ordered poinsettia stamps like 3 WEEKS ago for myself and for my company holiday cards and they still have not arrived.  On your website, you specifically state that it will take 2 days usually, and to leave 2 extra days during the holidays.  But it's been 3 WEEKS.  You've made me look really bad in front of my boss, who I convinced to wait for special poinsettia stamps instead of using the work stamp machine.  And, you made it so that my holiday cards went out way late to my own friends and family, which is embarrassing.  I had to print out stamps at the post office which clearly are not poinsettia stamps.  They are inferior reindeer stamps with barcodes on them. And so now, dear reader, you know why your holid...
